The linked open data (LOD) paradigm has emerged as a promising approach to structuring and sharing geospatial information. One of the major obstacles to this vision lies in the difficulties found in the automatic integration between heterogeneous vocabularies and ontologies that provides the semantic backbone of the growing constellation of open geo-knowledge bases. In this article, we show how to utilize WordNet as a semantic hub to increase the integration of LOD. With this purpose in mind… Expand
GeoDomainWordNet: Linking the Geonames Ontology to WordNet
TLDR
This paper illustrates the transformation of GeoNames’ ontology concepts into a GeoDomain WordNet-like resource in English, its translation into Italian, and its linking to the existing generic WordNets of both languages. Expand
Computational Science and Its Applications -- ICCSA 2016
TLDR
An enriched OpenStreetMap web map where each street name can be explored in terms of the properties of its associated entity is designed, showing how open data can reveal facets of the cultural texture that pervades. Expand
Where the Streets Have Known Names
TLDR
An enriched OpenStreetMap web map where each street name can be explored in terms of the properties of its associated entity, a first step towards the interactive exploration of toponymy, showing how open data can reveal facets of the cultural texture that pervades places. Expand
Prolegomena for an Ontology of Place
TLDR
It is argued that such an ontology should be seen as a module positioned between foundational and domain ontologies, and would provide a conceptual tool to support the modeling of place in any domain and a widely applicable ontology, whose deployment would increase the interoperability of datasets, particularly in the context of Linked Data. Expand
Semantic Web and Geospatial Unique Features Based Geospatial Data Integration
TLDR
The proposed linking algorithms are endowed with translation function, which can save the translating cost among all the geospatial sources with different languages as well as eliminating data redundancy and combining the complementary properties from the linked records. Expand
Sematch: Semantic Entity Search from Knowledge Graph
TLDR
The Sematch framework for entity search in the knowledge graph that combines natural language query processing, entity linking, entity type linking and semantic similarity based query expansion is proposed. Expand
Progress and Challenges on Entity Alignment of Geographic Knowledge Bases
TLDR
The state-of-the-art of algorithms of entity alignment of GKBs is reviewed from the three aspects of similarity metrics, similarity combination, and alignment judgement; the evaluation procedure of alignment results is summarized and challenges for future studies are identified. Expand
Semantic-Based Geospatial Data Integration With Unique Features
TLDR
The experimental results illustrate that the proposed linking method can get high Semantic-Based Geospatial Data Integration With Unique Features. Expand
A holistic approach to aligning geospatial data with multidimensional similarity measuring
TLDR
This paper proposes a holistic approach to integrally align the geospatial entities (concepts, properties and instances) simultaneously, which reduces the dependency on specific information, and makes the alignment more robust under the unbalanced distribution of various information. Expand
A holistic framework of geographical semantic web aligning
TLDR
This holistic framework firstly produces the initial matched results respectively for classes, properties and instances by the approval voting strategy, and then enhances these results by the mutual cooperating mechanism to improve the performance of aligning class and aligning property. Expand

Grounding Linked Open Data in WordNet: The Case of the OSM Semantic Network
TLDR
Voc2WordNet is devised, a mapping approach between a given vocabulary and WordNet, a pivotal component in the LOD cloud, and evaluated on the OSM Semantic Network against a human-generated alignment, obtaining high precision and recall. Expand
Geographic knowledge extraction and semantic similarity in OpenStreetMap
TLDR
Devising a mechanism for computing the semantic similarity of the OSM geographic classes can help alleviate this semantic gap, and empirical evidence supports the usage of co-citation algorithms—SimRank showing the highest plausibility—to compute concept similarity in a crowdsourced semantic network. Semantically Enriching VGI in Support of Implicit Feedback Analysis
TLDR
This paper proposes a system that executes spatial discovery queries that combines a semantically-rich and spatially-poor ontology (DBpedia) with a spatially -rich andSemantically-poor VGI dataset (OpenStreetMap) and differs from existing ones, such as the aggregated dataset LinkedGeoData, as it is focused on user interest analysis and takes map scale into account.
