The Web was designed to improve the way people work together. The Semantic Web extends the Web with a layer of Linked Data that offers new paths for scientific publishing and co-operation. Experimental raw data, released as Linked Data, could be discovered automatically, fostering its reuse and validation by scientists in different contexts and across the boundaries of disciplines. However, the technological barrier for scientists who want to publish and share their research data as Linked Data…

Figures from this paper

Towards Linked Data in Physics

The principles of Linked Data are discussed in the context of publications on physics and examples of linking data in a branch of physics called quantum mechanics are presented.

Towards Linked Research Data: an Institutional Approach

A concrete case study from the domain of biology is implemented that releases optical motion tracking data of stick insect locomotion and this data is integrated into a unified linked data store and interlink it with additional data sources from inside the university and outside sources like DBpedia.

Role of Content Analysis in Improving the Curation of Experimental Data

Manual content analysis is proposed as an approach to streamline the data curator workflow and obtain domain-specific concepts used to describe experimental configurations in scientific publications to make it easier for researchers to understand the notion of metadata and for the development of metadata tools.

Supporting Information Sharing for Re-Use and Analysis of Scientific Research Publication Data

The initial evaluation results show that SKET can address relevant needs in the EMSE community and can be considered as a foundation for advanced tool ca- in this paper.

From Linked Data to Concept Networks

This paper introduces and discusses the notion of a concept network containing RDF links between entities from scientific publications, and presents a web tool supporting creation of concept networks.

A Blueprint for Semantically Lifting Field Trial Data: Enabling Exploration using Knowledge Graphs

A semantic lifting architecture that lifts primary data resources into a single corporate knowledge graph, implemented following FAIR and Linked Data principles, which assigns unique URIs to entities and maps the data using a uniform shared vocabulary is proposed.

Flexible Integration and Efficient Analysis of Multidimensional Datasets from the Web

This work presents four complementary contributions to query the global cube: a mapping between the common model of data cubes and QB to use existing OLAP engines for efficient queries over datasets from the Web, an algorithm to evaluate OLAP operations over data cubes using SPARQL queries over QB datasets for more flexible data integration based on RDF stores, and a method to optimise analytical query processing via materialised aggregate views in RDF.

Exploratory Research in Knowledge Assistance Learning with Linked Data: A Case on The Education With Historic Military Combat

This study focused on the Linked Data application for expansion of education knowledge based on the related content from Wikipedia, and discussed the possible development of Linked data technology in the education in conjunction with the government's open data policy.

SMART Research using Linked Data - Sharing Research Data for Integrated Water Resources Management in the Lower Jordan Valley

The IWRM domain is formalised in an OWL ontology; Linked Data and multidimensional modelling based on the RDF Data Cube Vocabulary is used to build a knowledge base with research data; and exploratory interfaces are presented on top of integrated I WRM data.

Building an empirical software engineering research knowledge base from heterogeneous data sources

The RKB process is introduced, which guides knowledge engineers in developing and using a knowledge base (KB) for the SKE process based on contributions from heterogeneous data sources, and shows promising results in the EMSE research context.

The Chemical Information Ontology: Provenance and Disambiguation for Chemical Data on the Biological Semantic Web

The work in developing an ontology of chemical information entities, with a primary focus on data-driven research and the integration of calculated properties (descriptors) of chemical entities within a semantic web context is described.

From raw publications to Linked Data

A Machine Learning pipeline is presented that enables the automatic extraction of heading metadata from scientific publications and improves the average extraction performance of the state of the art with around 4%, in addition to showing an increased versatility.

High-Throughput Identification of Chemistry in Life Science Texts

OSCAR3 is an open extensible system for the automated annotation of chemistry in scientific articles that supports applications such as interactive browsing and chemically-aware searching, and has been designed for integration with larger text-analysis systems.

A Semantic Web Environment for Digital Shapes Understanding

This paper presents a Semantic Web environment, be-SMART, for inspecting 3D shapes and for structuring and annotating such shapes according to ontology-driven metadata and describes in details the first module of be- SMART, the Geometry and Topology Analyzer, and the algorithms the algorithms have developed for extracting geometrical and topological information from3D shapes.

ChemAxiom – An Ontological Framework for Chemistry in Science

We present ChemAxiom as the first ontological framework for chemistry in science. ChemAxiom enables discourse about chemical objects in a computable language and is useful for the management of

ChEBI: a database and ontology for chemical entities of biological interest

A dictionary of molecular entities focused on ‘small’ chemical compounds and an ontological classification, whereby the relationships between molecular entities or classes of entities and their parents and/or children are specified.

Calling International Rescue: knowledge lost in literature and data landslide!

A whirlwind tour of recent projects to transform scholarly publishing paradigms, culminating in Utopia and the Semantic Biochemical Journal experiment, and an experiment to rescue data from the dormant pages of published documents.

Handbook on Ontologies

The Handbook on Ontologies provides a comprehensive overview of the current status and future prospectives of the field of ontologies considering ontology languages, ontology engineering methods, example ontologies, infrastructures and technologies for ontology, and how to bring this all into ontology-based infrastructureures and applications that are among the best of their kind.

Glass transition and phase state of organic compounds: dependency on molecular properties and implications for secondary organic aerosols in the atmosphere.

Estimates for the glass forming properties of atmospheric secondary organic aerosol (SOA) are presented and how the viscosity in liquid, semi-solid and glassy states affect the diffusivity of those molecules constituting the organic matrix are shown.
