In the past year, data about the level and nature of linkage disequilibrium between alleles of tightly linked SNPs have started to become available. Furthermore, increasing evidence of allelic heterogeneity at the loci predisposing to complex disease has been observed, which has lead to initial attempts to develop methods of linkage disequilibrium detection allowing for this difficulty.
