Linezolid, the first oxazolidinone antibacterial agent to be developed for clinical use, was licensed in the UK in early 2001. We report the first three examples of resistant enterococci (two isolates of Enterococcus faecium and one Enterococcus faecalis) isolated in the UK, which were obtained from patients who had received linezolid. The linezolid MICs for the resistant isolates were 64 mg/L. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) analysis of the linezolid-susceptible and -resistant isolates… Expand
Emergence of linezolid resistance in clinical isolates of vancomycin-resistant enterococci
TLDR
In this study, resistance to linezolid was observed both in infection and surveillance sites. Expand
The first linezolid-resistant Enterococcus faecium in India: High level resistance in a patient with no previous antibiotic exposure
TLDR
The first case of linezolid resistant Enterococcus faecium from India is reported, which was isolated from the blood culture of a hypoglycemic encephalopathy patient and interestingly was sensitive to vancomycin. Expand
Enterococcus faecalis Resistant to Linezolid: Case Series and Review of the Literature
TLDR
In patients who have recently been treated with linezolid and have an identified new systemic enterococcal isolate, lineZolid sensitivity should be verified as soon as possible to guide therapy to protect against development of resistant E. faecalis. Expand
First report of a linezolid-resistant vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium strain in Greece.
TLDR
The isolate was recovered from a blood culture of a 20-year-old male patient, who was admitted to the University Hospital of Larissa after a car accident and treated for a fractured femur and the gene encoding domain V of the 23S rRNA was amplified. Expand
[Linezolid-resistant Enterococcus faecium: the first G2576T mutation in Turkey].
Linezolid which is the first member of oxazolidinone class of synthetic antimicrobial agents, was licensed for the treatment of gram-positive coccal infections in Turkey in 2006. In recent years,Expand
First report of the activity of linezolid against Portuguese enterococci from human, animal and environmental sources.
TLDR
The results indicate that linezolid is a good choice for the treatment of infections caused by multiresistant enterococci in Portugal, an area where the prevalence of VRE in both community and clinical settings is currently high. Expand
Linezolid: a promising option in the treatment of Gram-positives
TLDR
The development of resistance by clinical isolates should prompt increased attention of clinical laboratories to routinely perform linezolid susceptibility testing for this important agent and should be taken into account when considering its therapeutic use. Expand
The emerging problem of linezolid-resistant enterococci.
TLDR
A systematic review was performed of the available literature on LNZ-resistant enterococci (LRE) to characterise these infections with respect to epidemiological, microbiological and clinical features, and validated the potency of LNZ against enterococcal infections. Expand
Nosocomial outbreak of linezolid-resistant Enterococcus faecalis infection in a tertiary care hospital.
TLDR
This is the first report of a clonal outbreak of linezolid-resistant E. faecalis in Spain and it is suggested that susceptibility testing of clinically significant Gram-positive pathogens should be done in all cases of treatment failure, and, depending on the local epidemiology of each ICU, it might be advisable to do it before starting treatment with lineZolid. Expand
First report of a linezolid- and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium strain in Korea
We report the first clinical isolate of linezolid- and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREF) in Korea. The minimum inhibitory concentration of linezolid was in direct proportion to theExpand

Resistance to Linezolid: Characterization of Mutations in rRNA and Comparison of Their Occurrences in Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci
TLDR
DNA sequencing of the 23S rRNA genes revealed that linezolid resistance in three E. faecalis isolates was associated with a guanine to uracil transversion at bp 2576, while the one E.Faecium isolate for which the MIC was 16 μg/ml contained a guAnine to adenine transition at bP 2505. Expand

TLDR
It is suggested that environmental contamination played an important role in patient-to-patient transmission of VRE and interventions including implementation of infection control measures were associated with a decreased incidence of gastro-intestinal colonisation. Expand
