  • Linen industries have always taken second, if not third or fourth, place in studies of textiles' contribution to economic and social history. Perhaps this is because it is easier to portray success stories whether in terms of cotton as a leading sector, or in terms of silk as a luxury item, or in terms of wool as an all purpose material.
