The linear equations method is proposed to calculate the complete modal content of the partially coherent laser beam using only the intensity information. This method could give not only the incoherent expansion coefficients of the modal decomposition but also the cross-correlation expansion coefficients using the intensity profiles in several planes of finite distance along the propagation direction. A simulation is also presented to verify the validity of this theory. In our algorithm, the…

Transverse mode analysis for free-space laser beams using Bayesian analysis.
TLDR
A general modal analysis method for a free-space multimode laser beam has been developed based on Bayesian analysis and is found to be robust with the presence of Gaussian noise.
Eigenmode Decomposition for Free-Electron Lasers Using Bayesian Analysis
Laser beams from an optical cavity, such as free-electron laser (FEL) resonators, are typically a mixture of the cavity’s eigenmodes, such as the Hermite-Gaussian (HG) modes or Laguerre-Gaussian (LG)
Shape-invariant difference between two Gaussian Schell-model beams.
TLDR
The modal analysis of this class of cross-spectral densities is exploited to devise a synthesis scheme for this type of beam, and their intensity and coherence properties are investigated.
The subtraction of mutually displaced Gaussian Schell-model beams
Using recently derived results about the difference of two cross-spectral densities, we consider a source whose correlation function is the difference of two mutually displaced Gaussian Schell-model
Twisted Gaussian Schell-model beams as series of partially coherent modified Bessel-Gauss beams.
We show that twisted Gaussian Schell-model (TGSM) beams can be represented through an incoherent superposition of partially coherent beams carrying optical vortices and whose cross-spectral densities

We show that when an arbitrary optical beam is decomposed into a superposition of Hermite-Gaussian functions, it is sufficient to record a number of intensity profiles sampled at various transverse
Modal decomposition of partially coherent beams using the ambiguity function.
TLDR
A method is proposed to decompose a partially coherent beam into Hermite-Gaussian modes by using the ambiguity function, which can also be applied for the decomposition of the Wigner distribution function.
Evaluation of the modal structure of light beams composed of incoherent mixtures of Hermite-Gaussian modes.
TLDR
A new technique for determining the modal content of partially coherent beams that are made up of an incoherent superposition of Hermite-Gaussian modes is studied, making use of the intensity profile of the beam at an arbitrarily chosen transverse plane.
Complete modal decomposition for optical fibers using CGH-based correlation filters.
TLDR
Novel results are presented for the complete modal decomposition of optical fields by using computer-generated holographic filters and the suitability of this method is proven by reconstructing various fields emerging from a weakly multi-mode fiber with arbitrary mode contents.
Wavefront reconstruction by modal decomposition.
TLDR
A new method to determine the wavefront of a laser beam based on modal decomposition by computer-generated holograms is proposed, and results are compared to Shack-Hartmann measurements that serve as a reference and are shown to reproduce the wave front and phase with very high fidelity.
Evaluation of the spatial coherence of a light beam through transverse intensity measurements.
TLDR
It is shown that on expanding the beam emitted by the source as a bundle of partially correlated Hermite-Gaussian beams, the correlation coefficients can be recovered, in principle, simply by performing scalar products between transverse intensity distributions and suitably defined functions.
Real-time determination of laser beam quality by modal decomposition.
We present a real-time method to determine the beam propagation ratio M2 of laser beams. The all-optical measurement of modal amplitudes yields M2 parameters conform to the ISO standard method. The
Coherence theory of laser resonator modes
An analysis of transverse laser resonator modes is presented, based on a recently developed coherence theory in the space-frequency domain. The modes are introduced by means of solutions of an
Partially coherent fields, the transport-of-intensity equation, and phase uniqueness
Recent papers have shown that there are different coherent and partially coherent fields that may have identical intensity distributions throughout space. On the other hand, the well-known
