The limitation of the Quasilinear Theory (QLT) to describe the diffusion of electrons and ions in velocity space when interacting with a spectrum of large amplitude electrostatic Langmuir, Upper and Lower hybrid waves, is analyzed. We analytically and numerically estimate the threshold for the amplitude of the waves above which the QLT breaks down, using a test particle code. The evolution of the velocity distribution, the velocity-space diffusion coefficients, the driven current, and the…

Longitudinal wave instability due to rotating beam-plasma interaction in weakly turbulent astrophysical plasmas

The aim of this study is to highlight the temporal evolution of the longitudinal wave instability due to the interaction between a rotating electron beam and the magnetoactive plasma region in space

Superdiffusive stochastic Fermi acceleration in space and energy

We analyse the transport properties of charged particles (ions and electrons) interacting with randomly formed magnetic scatterers (e.g. large-scale local ‘magnetic fluctuations’ or ‘coherent

Beam-plasma streaming instability in spin polarized quantum magnetoplasma

The effect of spin-polarization on the beam-plasma streaming instability in magnetized quantum plasma is studied. The spin-polarization is induced by the difference in concentration of spin-up and

Comparison of quasilinear diffusion coefficients for parallel propagating whistler mode waves with test particle simulations

We present a comparison between the classical quasilinear diffusion coefficients and those calculated using a general test particle code. The trajectories of a large number of electrons are followed

Stochastic ion heating by an electrostatic wave in a sheared magnetic field

Effects of the shear of the magnetic field on the stochastic acceleration of ions due to an electrostatic wave with a frequency in the lower‐hybrid range are considered. An appropriate Hamiltonian

Chaotic dynamics of charged particles in the field of two monochromatic waves in a magnetized plasma.

A set of difference equations (maps) is derived for the nonrelativistic particle motion limit and numerically study them to elucidate the various aspects of the phase space dynamics.

Stochastic Ion Heating by a Lower Hybrid Wave: II

The motion of an ion in a coherent lower hybrid wave (characterized by ‖k∥‖<<‖k⊥‖ and ω≳≳Ωi) in a tokamak plasma is studied. For ions satisfying v⊥≳ω/k⊥, the Lorentz force law for the ions is reduced

The Boltzmann equation an d the one-fluid hydromagnetic equations in the absence of particle collisions

Starting from the Boltzmann equation for a completely ionized dilute gas with no interparticle collision term but a strong Lorentz force, an attempt is made to obtain one-fluid hydromagnetic

Evolution of plasma turbulence excited with particle beams

Particles ejected from the Sun that stream through the surrounding plasma of the solar wind are causing instabilities. These generate wavemodes in a certain frequency range especially within shock

Particle scattering in turbulent plasmas with amplified wave modes

High-energy particles stream during coronal mass ejections or flares through the plasma of the solar wind. This causes instabilities, which lead to wave growth at specific resonant wave numbers,

Stochastic acceleration by an obliquely propagating wave‐An example of overlapping resonances

A simple problem exhibiting intrinsic stochasticity is treated: the motion of a charged particle in a uniform magnetic field and a single plane wave. Detailed studies of this wave‐particle

Velocity Space Diffusion from Weak Plasma Turbulence in a Magnetic Field

The quasi‐linear velocity space diffusion is considered for waves of any oscillation branch propagating at an arbitrary angle to a uniform magnetic field in a spatially uniform plasma. The
