Abstract Here we present the results of visible range light curve observations of ten Centaurs using the Kepler Space Telescope in the framework of the K2 mission. Well defined periodic light curves are obtained in six cases allowing us to derive rotational periods, a notable increase in the number of Centaurs with known rotational properties. The low amplitude light curves of (471931) 2013 PH44 and (250112) 2002 KY14 can be explained either by albedo variegations, binarity or elongated shape… Expand

101 Trojans: A Tale of Period Bimodality, Binaries, and Extremely Slow Rotators from K2 Photometry
Various properties of Jovian Trojan asteroids such as composition, rotation periods, and photometric amplitudes, or the rate of binarity in the population, can provide information and constraints onExpand
A statistical review of light curves and the prevalence of contact binaries in the Kuiper Belt
Abstract We investigate what can be learned about a population of distant Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs) by studying the statistical properties of their light curves. Whereas others have successfullyExpand
Determination of Rotation Periods for a Large Sample of Asteroids from the K2 Campaign 9
The Kepler mission is a powerful tool for the study of different types of astrophysical objects or events in the distant universe. However, the spacecraft also provides an opportunity to study solarExpand

K2 precision lightcurve: Twelve days in the Pluto-Charon system
Abstract The Kepler spacecraft's imaging photometer monitored the Pluto system from October–December 2015 during Campaign 7 of the K2 extended mission. Kepler obtained an unprecedented and fortuitousExpand
Rotational properties of Centaurs and Trans-Neptunian Objects - Lightcurves and densities
Context. The knowledge of the rotational periods of the small bodies in the outer Solar System is a useful tool for retrieving information on the internal structure of the observed objects and forExpand
The heart of the swarm: K2 photometry and rotational characteristics of 56 Jovian Trojan asteroids
We present fully covered phased light curves for 56 Jovian Trojan asteroids as observed by the K2 mission of the Kepler space telescope. This set of objects has been monitored during Campaign 6 andExpand
Transneptunian objects and Centaurs from light curves
Aims. We compile and analyze an extended database of light curve parameters scattered in the literature to search for correlations and study physical properties, including internal structureExpand
Uninterrupted optical light curves of main-belt asteroids from the K2 mission
Context. Because the second reaction wheel failed, a new mission was conceived for the otherwise healthy Kepler space telescope. In the course of the K2 mission, the telescope is staring at the planeExpand
Photometric observations of nine Transneptunian objects and Centaurs
We present the results of photometric observations of six Transneptunian objects and three Centaurs, estimations of their rotational periods and corresponding amplitudes. For six of them we presentExpand
Pushing the limits: K2 observations of the trans-Neptunian objects 2002 GV31 and (278361) 2007 JJ43
We present the first photometric observations of trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) taken with the Kepler space telescope, obtained in the course of the K2 ecliptic survey. Two faint objects have beenExpand
Short-term rotational variability of eight KBOs from Sierra Nevada Observatory
In 2001, we started a CCD photometry programme to study the short-term variability of some of the brightest TNOs and Centaurs from the Sierra Nevada observatory. In this paper, we report our latestExpand
Large size and slow rotation of the trans-Neptunian object (225088) 2007 OR10 discovered from Herschel and K2 observations
We present the first comprehensive thermal and rotational analysis of the second most distant trans-Neptunian object (225088) 2007 OR10. We combined optical light curves provided by the Kepler spaceExpand
Photometric Lightcurves of Transneptunian Objects and Centaurs: Rotations, Shapes, and Densities
We discuss the transneptunian objects and Centaur rotations, shapes, and densities as determined through analyzing observations of their short-term photometric lightcurves. The lightcurves are foundExpand
