We report experimental findings and simulation results that identify distinct dynamical phases during the light touchdown between the flying head and ultra-thin perfluoropolyether lubricant layer in resolution of Angstroms. Using an accurately controlled power supply with thermal fly-height control sliders, we observe that during light touchdown, the slider could reach the surfing phase, which is characterized by relatively low amplitude contact signals.
