In a large-scale (N = 1487) general population online study, we investigated the relationship between past experience with classic psychedelic substances (e.g. LSD, psilocybin, mescaline), nature relatedness, and ecological behavior (e.g. saving water, recycling). Using structural equation modeling we found that experience with classic psychedelics uniquely predicted self-reported engagement in pro-environmental behaviors, and that this relationship was statistically explained by people’s…

From Egoism to Ecoism: Psychedelics Increase Nature Relatedness in a State-Mediated and Context-Dependent Manner
Evidence is presented for a context- and state-dependent causal effect of psychedelic use on nature relatedness that bears relevance for psychedelic treatment models in mental health and, in the face of the current ecological crisis, planetary health.
Examining Psychedelic-Induced Changes in Social Functioning and Connectedness in a Naturalistic Online Sample Using the Five-Factor Model of Personality
The present study examines prospective changes in personality traits relevant to social functioning as well as perceived social connectedness in relation to the naturalistic use of psychedelic
Transformative experience and social connectedness mediate the mood-enhancing effects of psychedelic use in naturalistic settings
It is found that recent use of psychedelics was associated with increased positive mood through experience of personal transformation and feelings of connectedness to others, and this research provides robust evidence for positive affective and social consequences of psychedelic substance use in naturalistic settings.
Self-Actualization and the Integration of Psychedelic Experience: The Mediating Role of Perceived Benefits to Narrative Self-Functioning
There is a growing need in the field of psychedelic science for a unifying perspective of overall well-being to join seemingly disparate findings across clinical and non-clinical populations, and

We are in the midst of a psychedelic research renaissance. With research examining the efficacy of psychedelics as a treatment for a range of mental health indications still in its early stages,
Recreational use of psychedelics is associated with elevated personality trait openness: Exploration of associations with brain serotonin markers
Evidence of a positive association between psychedelic experiences and openness to experience is supported, and a modulation of personality induced by psychedelic experiences may have important therapeutic implications via its impact on peoples’ value systems, cognitive flexibility, and individual and social behaviour.
DMT Models the Near-Death Experience
A significant overlap in nearly all of the NDE phenomenological features is found when comparing DMT-induced NDEs with a matched group of ‘actual’ NDE experiencers, and a striking similarity between these states that warrants further investigation is revealed.
How psychedelic researchers’ self-admitted substance use and their association with psychedelic culture affect people’s perceptions of their scientific integrity and the quality of their research
It is found that the public’s evaluation of researchers’ scientific integrity and of the quality of their research is moderated by participants’ personal experience with psychedelic substances: only participants without such experience evaluated research quality more negatively when it was presented in a stereotyped context.
Losing the Self in Near-Death Experiences: The Experience of Ego-Dissolution
This study suggests that the experience of dissolved ego-boundaries is a common feature of NDEs and is positively correlated with the intensity of OBE and a sense of unity.
Tripping over the other: Could psychedelics increase empathy?
There is increasing evidence that psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy is effective for a range of psychological conditions. There are likely numerous mechanisms of action that contribute to these

The Nature Relatedness Scale
Disconnection from the natural world may be contributing to our planet's destruction. The authors propose a new construct, Nature Relatedness (NR), and a scale that assesses the affective, cognitive,
The relationship between nature connectedness and happiness: a meta-analysis
This meta-analysis shows that being connected to nature and feeling happy are, in fact, connected, and highlights the importance of considering personality when examining the psychological benefits of nature.
Conscientiousness and health-related behaviors: a meta-analysis of the leading behavioral contributors to mortality.
The authors conducted a meta-analysis of conscientiousness-related traits and the leading behavioral contributors to mortality in the United States to demonstrate the importance ofcientiousness' contribution to the health process through its relationship to health-related behaviors.
Mystical experiences occasioned by the hallucinogen psilocybin lead to increases in the personality domain of openness
Assessment of the effect of psilocybin on changes in the five broad domains of personality – Neuroticism, Extroversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness found significant increases in Openness following a high-dose p silocybin session.
Nature experience reduces rumination and subgenual prefrontal cortex activation
A pathway by which nature experience may improve mental well-being is revealed and it is suggested that accessible natural areas within urban contexts may be a critical resource for mental health in the authors' rapidly urbanizing world.
Psychedelics not linked to mental health problems or suicidal behavior: A population study
Overall, it is difficult to see how prohibition of psychedelics can be justified as a public health measure, after adjusting for sociodemographics, other drug use and childhood depression.
The Effect of Empathy in Proenvironmental Attitudes and Behaviors
Previous studies have pointed out the importance of empathy in improving attitudes toward stigmatized groups and toward the environment. In the present article, it is argued that environmental
Classic psychedelic use is associated with reduced psychological distress and suicidality in the United States adult population
It is indicated thatclassic psychedelics may hold promise in the prevention of suicide, supporting the view that classic psychedelics’ most highly restricted legal status should be reconsidered to facilitate scientific study, and suggesting that more extensive clinical research with classic psychedelic is warranted.
Increased Global Functional Connectivity Correlates with LSD-Induced Ego Dissolution
LSD enhances suggestibility in healthy volunteers
Enhanced suggestibility under LSD may have implications for its use as an adjunct to psychotherapy, where suggestibility plays a major role, and the results imply that individuals with high trait conscientiousness are especially sensitive to the suggestibility-enhancing effects of LSD.
