Lexical-syntactic representations in bilingual sentence production
@inproceedings{Bernolet2008LexicalsyntacticRI, title={Lexical-syntactic representations in bilingual sentence production}, author={Sarah Bernolet}, year={2008} }
Research on sentence production and comprehension has shown that the abstract structure of sentences can be primed (see Pickering & Ferreira, 2008, for a review). Recently, it has been shown that syntactic structures can also be primed between both languages of a bilingual (Hartsuiker et al., 2004; Schoonbaert et al. 2007; Salamoura & Williams, 2007). Hartsuiker et al. (2004) therefore concluded that syntactic representations can be shared between languages in the bilingual lexicon. In this…

A significant effect for syntactic priming was found in participants from the University group who obtained high scores in the "dative alternation" section of the grammar proficiency test, which has implications for the use of repetition in L2 classroom teaching.

In semantic studies of argument structure alternations as well as in psycholinguisticstudies on syntactic priming, lexical alternation biases are typically measuredat the level of the verb lexeme.…

Abstract We report five experiments that investigate syntactic priming ( 982592 ) using a written completion task. Experiments 1 and 2 showed that priming occurs if the prime and target contain…

In structural priming, the structure of one sentence is echoed in the structure of a second sentence that may be otherwise unrelated to the first. It can occur without the intention to create…

Cross-language (L1-to-L2) syntactic priming is the repetition of utterance structure from one language to another independently of meaning and has motivated models of language-shared representations…

This paper reports on a variation on this task, using Spanish-English bilingual participants, that investigated syntactic priming using a sentence recall task and replicated the prepositional phrase priming effect using English target sentences and Spanish prime sentences.

We argue that psycholinguistics should be concerned with both the representation and the processing of language. Recent experimental work on syntax in language comprehension has largely concentrated…
