Two glycoprotein IIb-IIIa antagonists (xemilofiban, SC-54684A, and orbofiban, SC-57099B), which are platelet aggregation inhibitors, caused crystalline precipitates in the kidney tubules of rats at high dosages. Dogs were not affected. Depending on the degree of the precipitation, which was dosage dependent, and the location, which differed somewhat between the two compounds, the lesions varied from acute obstruction with tubule cell necrosis, nephron dilation, and sudden death with no… Expand

Obstructive Protein Cast Nephropathy in Cynomolgus Monkeys Treated with Small Organic Molecules
TLDR
It is hypothesized that microcrystal formation in the urinary tubular spaces induces aggregation of THP protein and cast formation in monkeys and that drug-induced obstructive nephropathy is not identified as a major problem in humans; thus, the clinical relevance of the above findings in monkeys is not clear. 10 – Urinary Tract
TLDR
Findings show that morphological changes are accompanied by functional alterations as well as notably increased glomerular basement membrane permeability and the loss of selectivity in the urinary tract. Expand
IX – Urinary Tract
TLDR
A number of different factors, such as hypertension, dehydration, fluid, and electrolyte loss through vomiting, may potentiate nephrotoxic effects of xenobiotics and the potential for nonrenal factors to influence renal function should be kept in mind. Expand
Chapter 47 – Kidney
TLDR
Screening strategies for new chemicals, potential mechanisms of renal injury, and the methods to characterize these mechanisms are reviewed on a sub-topographical basis using specific drug and chemical examples for illustration. Expand

TLDR
This review describes kidney macroscopic and microscopic functional anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, toxicology, and drug-induced kidney toxicities in safety risk assessment and drug development. Expand
Time Of Flight Secondary Ion Mass spectrometry: Chemical Imaging
Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) is a surface analytical technique that focuses a pulsed beam of primary ions onto a sample surface, producing secondary ions in a sputteringExpand
