The authors present a retrospective study of 154 cases of neonatal infections in a rural area in Cameroon over a period of 19 months (1st October 1998 to 30th April 2000). Out of 1765 live - births in the hospital, the frequency was 6.9 %. Clinically, the manifestations were often non- specific and subtle with neurological disorders (73.4%) and temperature instability (48.1%) taking the lead.
