Most people reading this article probably have heard at least one of these statements at some point in their teaching careers. For the past two decades, the form of teaching called lecture has been maligned in almost every imaginable educational circle, yet lecturing is still one of the primary modes of teaching used by secondary teachers (Brown 1987).
