Epifluorescence microscopy was used to visualize the formation of lateral fluid domains in monolayers of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) or N-palmitoylsphingomyelin (N-P-SM) containing cholesterol. NBD-Cholesterol was used as a fluorophore at 1 mol%.
