We briefly review the problems and prospects of the standard lore of dark energy and notice that the cosmological constant problems are often over emphasized. In order to keep the discussion pedagogical aimed at a wider audience, we have avoided technical complications in several places and resorted to heuristic arguments based on physical perceptions. We presented underlying ideas of modified theories based upon chameleon mechanism and Vainshtein screening. We have given a lucid illustration… Expand
Why is Universe so dark
In this presentation prepared for a general audience, we briefly mention the shortcomings of standard model of universe. We then focus on the late time inconsistency of the model dubbed age crisisExpand
Symmetry breaking and onset of cosmic acceleration in scalar field models
Abstract We propose a new scenario for the onset of positive acceleration of our Universe based on symmetry breaking in coupled dark energy scalar field model. In a symmetry breaking process whereExpand
Cosmic acceleration sourced by slowly rolling scalar field and by the interaction between known components of matter in the Universe
In this thesis, we investigate the possibility of sourcing late-time cosmic acceleration by a slowly rolling scalar field and by the large-scale modification of gravity without extra degrees ofExpand
On Dark Energy and the Relativistic Bohm-Poisson Equation
Recently, solutions to the $nonlinear$ Bohm-Poisson (BP) equation were found with relevant cosmological applications. We were able to obtain an exact analytical expression for the observed vacuumExpand
Perturbations in a scalar field model with virtues of ΛCDM
In the era of precision cosmology, the cosmological constant Λ gives quite an accurate description of the evolution of the Universe, but it is still plagued with the fine-tuning problem and theExpand
Unification of inflation and dark energy à la quintessential inflation
This pedagogical review is devoted to quintessential inflation, which refers to unification of inflation and dark energy using a single scalar field. We present a brief but concise description of theExpand
Mass varying neutrinos, symmetry breaking, and cosmic acceleration
We introduce a new proposal for the onset of cosmic acceleration based on mass-varying neutrinos. When massive neutrinos become nonrelativistic, the $Z_2$ symmetry breaks, and the quintessenceExpand
Viewing the Cosmological Consequences of Modified Holographic Dark Energy in Various Interaction Scenarios
Abstract In the work reported here, we have considered the interaction between modified holographic Ricci dark energy, a particular choice of Nojiri–Odintsov cut-offs, and pressureless dark matterExpand
Cosmic acceleration and stars in an asymptotically Ricci flat universe
We analyze the evolution of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime within the framework of $f(R)$ metric gravity using an exponential model. We show that $f(R)$ gravity may lead to a vanishingExpand
Developments of the Relativistic Bohm-Poisson Equation and Dark Energy
The nonlinear and novel Bohm-Poisson-Schrödinger equation proposed by us is studied further. It has solutions leading to repulsive gravitational behavior. An exact analytical expression for theExpand

Avoiding dark energy with 1/r modifications of gravity
Scalar quintessence seems epicyclic because one can choose the potential to reproduce any cosmology (I review the construction) and because the properties of this scalar seem to raise more questionsExpand
A primer on problems and prospects of dark energy
This review on dark energy is intended for a wider audience, beginners as well as experts. It contains important notes on various aspects of dark energy and its alternatives. The section on NewtonianExpand
Dynamics of dark energy
We review in detail a number of approaches that have been adopted to try and explain the remarkable observation of our accelerating universe. In particular we discuss the arguments for and recentExpand
Dark energy: mystery of the millennium
Nearly seventy per cent of the energy density in the universe is unclustered and exerts negative pressure. This conclusion — now supported by numerous observations — poses the greatest challenge forExpand
Modified Gravity and Cosmology
Abstract In this review we present a thoroughly comprehensive survey of recent work on modified theories of gravity and their cosmological consequences. Amongst other things, we cover GeneralExpand
Theoretical Aspects of Massive Gravity
Massive gravity has seen a resurgence of interest due to recent progress which has overcome its traditional problems, yielding an avenue for addressing important open questions such as theExpand
Modied Gravity and Cosmology
In this review we present a thoroughly comprehensive survey of recent work on modied theories of gravity and their cosmological consequences. Amongst other things, we cover General Relativity,Expand
Dark Energy and the Accelerating Universe
Ten years ago, the discovery that the expansion of the universe is accelerating put in place the last major building block of the present cosmological model, in which the universe is composed of 4%Expand
Cosmic acceleration and the helicity-0 graviton
We explore cosmology in the decoupling limit of a nonlinear covariant extension of Fierz-Pauli massive gravity obtained recently in arXiv:1007.0443. In this limit the theory is a scalar-tensor modelExpand
