We present a theoretical study of the modulation using laser irradiation of an acoustic radiation force (ARF) acting on a liquid ball. The ARFs acting on a laser-irradiated oleic acid (OA) sphere were investigated using a mathematical model and were verified using the finite element method (FEM). It was found that, when the influence of the photoacoustic (PA) effect on the ARF is stronger than that from the acoustic scattering, a negative ARF can be realized. The ARF on a laser-irradiated OA…

Calibration of sound forces in acoustic traps

A two-dimensional or transverse acoustic trapping and its capability to noninvasively manipulate micrometersized particles with focused sound beams were experimentally demonstrated and the experimental and theoretical results were in good agreement.

Acoustic radiation force on a fluid cylindrical particle immersed in water near an impedance boundary.

The results reveal that the existence of particle trapping behavior depends on the choice of the nondimensional frequency ka as well as the offset distance from the impedance boundary, which may be of benefit to the improvement and development of the acoustic control technology.

Acoustic manipulation: Bessel beams and active carriers.

The main aim of this work is to examine the performance of a nondiffracting and self-reconstructing zero-order Bessel beam to obtain the full manipulability condition of active carriers in comparison with the case of a plane wave field.
