In some cases the FLIR has an open window in the 1.06 micrometer wavelength range; this capability is called 'see spot' and allows seeing a laser designator spot using the FLIR. A problem arises when the returned laser energy is too high for the camera sensitivity, and therefore can cause damage to the sensor.
