Ultrastable lasers form the back bone of precision measurements in science and technology. Such lasers attain their stability through frequency locking to reference cavities. State-of-the-art locking performances to date had been achieved using frequency-modulation based methods, complemented with active drift cancellation systems. We demonstrate an all passive, modulation-free laser-cavity locking technique (squash locking) that utilizes changes in beam ellipticity for error signal generation…

Frequency stability of spatial mode interference (tilt) locking

This paper describes the investigation of the frequency stability of tilt locking, a technique which derives an error signal for locking a laser to an optical cavity by use of spatial-mode

A second generation of low thermal noise cryogenic silicon resonators

We have set up an improved vertically mounted silicon cavity operating at the zero-crossing temperature of the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) near 123 K with estimated thermal noise limited

Technical advantages for weak value amplification: When less is more

The technical merits of weak value amplification techniques are analyzed and it is demonstrated that weak value techniques can put all of the Fisher information about the detected parameter into a small portion of the events and show how this fact alone gives technical advantages.

Phase estimation with weak measurement using a white light source.

The sensitivity of the high precision phase estimation method is equivalent to resolving light pulses of the order of a attosecond and it is robust against chromatic dispersion.

Weak value amplification: a view from quantum estimation theory that highlights what it is and what isn’t

While WVA cannot be used to go beyond some fundamental sensitivity limits that arise from considering the full nature of the quantum states, WVA can notwithstanding enhance the sensitivity of real and specific detection schemes that are limited by many other things apart from the quantumnature of the states involved.
