[1] Coupling between the physical and biological fields in the upper ocean around the Azores Front (AF) was studied in summer 1998 during an oceanographic cruise to the southern Azores Islands (30 N–38 N and 20 W–33 W). On the basis of conductivitytemperature-depth (CTD), acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP), and fluorescence data, several large-scale, mesoscale, and submesoscale physical features are described.
