Heightened awareness of the possible presence of gallbladder cancer (GBC) and the knowledge of appropriate management are important for surgeons practising laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). Long-term effects of initial LC versus open cholecystectomy (OC) on the prognosis of patients with GBC remain undefined.
