Expand

Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis Involving the Skin of an Elderly Woman: A Satisfactory Remission with Oral Prednisolone Alone
TLDR
A 74‐year‐old woman presented with a fourteen year history of eosinophilic granuloma and bone involvement caused by LCH, and treatment with oral prednisolone alone has resulted in the patient remaining in complete remission for 12 months. Expand
Successful Treatment of Cutaneous Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis with Thalidomide
TLDR
Thalidomide monotherapy represents an effective, safe and well-tolerated treatment option that should be considered as first-line therapy for mucocutaneous LCH. Expand
Langerhans cell histiocytosis in an adult: good response of cutaneous lesions to acitretin
TLDR
This case had an uncommon combination of features, with a good response to acitretin, and the patient remained free of cutaneous lesions and his overall condition, including the retroperitoneal fibrosis, had improved. Expand
Adult Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis Limited to the Skin
TLDR
Three adults with scalp, vulvar and generalized LCH lesions had refractory responses to treatment and LCH may present with unusual cutaneous manifestations limited to the skin in adults. Expand
Thalidomide: dermatological indications, mechanisms of action and side‐effects
TLDR
Thalidomide has shown its effectiveness in unresponsive dermatological conditions such as actinic prurigo, adult Langerhans cell histiocytosis, aphthous stomatitis, Behçet's syndrome, graft‐versus‐host disease, cutaneous sarcoidosis, erythema multiforme, Jessner–Kanof lymphocytic infiltration of the skin. A phase II trial using thalidomide for Langerhans cell histiocytosis
TLDR
Few new drugs for treatment of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) have been studied and thalidomide inhibits TNF‐α production by affecting the gene promoter as well as other anti‐cytokine effects. Expand

TLDR
A 40‐year‐old woman with a 4‐year history of LCH who was successfully treated with low‐dose methotrexate (20 mg weekly) is presented. Expand

[Langerhans-cell histiocytosis (histiocytosis X) in children].
TLDR
The Histiocyte Society has suggested diagnostic criteria for LCH, and established a program of initial evaluation of the patient in order to start controlled treatment trials, and a trend over time towards a more conservative approach. Expand

Langerhans'-cell histiocytosis (histiocytosis X)--a clonal proliferative disease.
TLDR
The detection of clonal histiocytes in all forms of Langerhans'-cell histiocytosis indicates that this disease is probably a clonal neoplastic disorder with highly variable biologic behavior. Expand
Xanthomatous cutaneous lesions of histiocytosis X.
TLDR
The rare cases of histiocytosis X associated with cutaneous lesions that show features consistent with xanthoma disseminatum, juvenile xanthogranuloma, and reticulohistiocyToma suggest that these various entities are related clinicopathologic reaction patterns which form a spectrum of Histiocytic proliferative disease. Human herpesvirus 6 is present in lesions of Langerhans cell histiocytosis.
TLDR
The presence of a virus alone does not establish a causal role in the disease, it supports the possibility of an etiologic relationship and underscores the need for further investigation of the potential HHV-6-mediated pathogenesis of LCH. Expand
The histiocytic disorders: a pathophysiologic analysis.
