Final leachates (leachate after storage or treatment processes) from 22 landfills in 12 states were analyzed for 190 pharmaceuticals and other contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), which were detected in every sample, with the number of CECs ranging from 1 to 58 (median = 22). In total, 101 different CECs were detected in leachate samples, including 43 prescription pharmaceuticals, 22 industrial chemicals, 15 household chemicals, 12 nonprescription pharmaceuticals, 5 steroid hormones, and 4…
ANALYSIS OF LEACHATE FROM A NON-SANITARY LANDFILL AND ASSESSMENT OF REMOVAL EFFICIENCY OF CAFFEINE USING MATERIAL AND SUBSTANCE FLOW ANALYSIS
Leachate from a non-sanitary municipal solid waste landfill (L) was collected to perform physico-chemical (temperature, pH value, conductivity, COD, BOD5, NH4-N, SO4, Ptot, orthophosphates,
Municipal solid waste landfills: An underestimated source of PPCPs in the water environment.
TLDR
This review systematically summarized the occurrence of PPCPs in landfill leachates globally, evaluated the removal performances for various PPC Ps by different types of on-site full-scale leachate treatment processes, and assessed the impacts of landfill leechates on P PCPs in the adjacent groundwater.
National Estimate of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substance (PFAS) Release to U.S. Municipal Landfill Leachate.
TLDR
The concentrations of 70 PFASs in 95 samples of leachate were measured in a survey of U.S. landfills of varying climates and waste ages and six PFAS demonstrated significant variation with climate.
Concentrating Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Leachate Using Foam Separation.
TLDR
The results of this study suggest that for the pretreatment or preconcentration of landfill leachates, foaming to sequester PFAS may provide a practical approach that could be strategically coupled to high energy PFAS-destructive treatment technologies.
Recent Advances of Landfill Leachate Treatment
Landfill leachate poses significant risks to the environment and human health if not managed properly due to its potential to contaminate soil, ground, and surface waters. Consequently, effluent

Contaminants of emerging concern in fresh leachate from landfills in the conterminous United States.
TLDR
Leachate from landfills in areas receiving greater amounts of precipitation had greater frequencies of CEC detections and concentrations in leachate than landfILLs receiving less precipitation.

Emerging Contaminants at a Closed and an Operating Landfill in Oklahoma
Landfills are the final depositories for a wide range of solid waste from both residential and commercial sources, and therefore have the potential to produce leachate containing many organic
Waste-Indicator and Pharmaceutical Compounds in Landfill-Leachate-Affected Ground Water near Elkhart, Indiana, 2000–2002

Acetaminophen, caffeine, and cotinine detections confirm prior indications of pharmaceutical and nicotinate disposal in the landfill.
Organic compounds in municipal landfill leachates
Leachates from three municipal landfills in the Goteborg area of western Sweden were characterised in terms of their content of individual organic compounds. Two of the investigated landfills were
