The bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis and Bacillus sphaericus produce insecticidal toxins used to control mosquito larvae throughout the world. Unfortunately, there are few alternative insecticides with similar activity and environmental safety, which may limit the long-term success of these insecticides.
