The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between laboratory behavioral measured impulsivity (using the Immediate and Delayed Memory Tasks) and suicidal attempt histories. Three groups of adults were recruited, those with either: no previous suicide attempts (Control, n = 20), only a single suicide attempt (Single, n = 20), or multiple suicidal attempts (Multiple, n = 10). As hypothesized, impulsive responses increased with the number of suicide attempts (Control < Single…

Relations among behavioral and questionnaire measures of impulsivity in a sample of suicide attempters.
TLDR
Researchers cannot presume that measures of "impulsivity" assess similar psychological processes and that more nuanced terminology is needed, as there was little evidence of concordance between questionnaire and behavioral measures.
Intolerance to delayed reward in girls with multiple suicide attempts.
TLDR
Girls with multiple suicide attempts performed more impulsively on measures of delayed reward, and had higher self-ratings of depression and aggression than girls with either one or no suicide attempts.
Increased impulsivity associated with severity of suicide attempt history in patients with bipolar disorder.
TLDR
It is suggested that a history of severe suicidal behavior in patients with bipolar disorder is associated with impulsivity, manifested as a tendency toward rapid, unplanned responses.
Reconsidering the Link Between Impulsivity and Suicidal Behavior
TLDR
A meta-analysis of the association between trait impulsivity and suicidal behavior and a critical review of research considering the impulsiveness of specific suicide attempts suggest that researchers have been unable to adequately measure impulsivity of attempts and that measures sensitive to episodic planning must be developed.

TLDR
Patients with a family history of suicidal behavior and who had themselves attempted suicide had significantly higher BIS scores for both impulsivity and risk taking than patients who had never attempted suicide.

Self-report vs. computerized measures of impulsivity as a correlate of suicidal behavior.
TLDR
Computerized measures of impulsivity may be a useful way to measure impulsivity in adolescent suicide attempters and appears to play a small role only in nondepressed suicidal adolescents, especially boys.
Relationships among suicide ideators, attempters, and multiple attempters in a young-adult sample.
TLDR
Comparing across a range of variables, including Axis I diagnoses from the revised 3rd edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, revealed that multiple attempters presented a more severe clinical picture and, accordingly, elevated suicide risk compared with attEMPters and ideators.
Association between multiple suicide attempts and negative affects in adolescents.
TLDR
In already highly anxious and depressed suicidal inpatients, a high level of aggression might significantly increase the risk of recidivism.
Toward a clinical model of suicidal behavior in psychiatric patients.
TLDR
A stress-diathesis model is proposed in which the risk for suicidal acts is determined not merely by a psychiatric illness but also by a diathesis, reflected in tendencies to experience more suicidal ideation and to be more impulsive and, therefore, more likely to act on suicidal feelings.
Parameters of suicidal crises vary as a function of previous suicide attempts in youth inpatients.
TLDR
Previous suicidal experience may alter the parameters of current suicidal crises, and this work developed predictions regarding the intensity and duration of suicidal crises in youths presenting to inpatient psychiatry units.
Impulsivity and the initiation of fights in children with disruptive behavior disorders.
TLDR
Children who initiated fights were impulsive irrespective of whether ADHD was present or not, although ADHD was also associated with increased impulsivity and Oppositional-defiant disorder and conduct disorder diagnoses were not associated with impulsivity.
Validation of the Immediate and Delayed Memory Tasks in Hospitalized Adolescents with Disruptive Behavior Disorders
This study explores concurrent and criterion validity of a Continuous Performance Test, the Immediate and Delayed Memory Tasks (IMT/DMT). Concurrent validity was examined through comparison with

TLDR
The results of the present study suggest that the total score of the BIS-11 is an internally consistent measure of impulsiveness and has potential clinical utility for measuring impulsiveness among selected patient and inmate populations.
