Scheloribates laevigatus (Koch, 1836) and Scheloribates fimbriatus (Thor, 1930), predominant species of oribatids in soil of Bombay region, were experimentally exposed to infection by uniform suspensions of eggs of Moniezia expansa and M. benedeni. The percentages of mites infected and the average number of cysticercoids developing were observed in 12 sets of experiments. Observations on oribatid mites (Acari: Oribatida) serving as intermediate hosts of Moniezia expansa (Cestoda: Anoplocephalidae) in Iran
Preliminary observations on oribatid mites, intermediate hosts of tapeworms of the family Anoplocephalidae, based on mites collected from soil and grass samples from Mazandaran province in the north of Iran, showed that these mite species harbored cysticercoids, likely to act as natural vectors of anoplocephalids.
Molecular detection of Moniezia spp. (Cestoda) in Pergalumna persica (Acari: Oribatida) in Iran
It is demonstrated that the mite P. persica can be infested by M. expansa and M. benedeni in the laboratory and it can be naturally infected by the former species; however cestodes were not detected in the mites A. lanceolata, the first record of P. Persica as the intermediate host of anoplocephalid tapeworms.
The sign¬ificance of grazing on the population distribution of soiloribatid mites
Variations in the abundance and relative cont­ribution of different oribatid species within each of the two chosen biotopes were found to be markedly sign­ificant, indicating that local environmental vari­ations had a substantial role in determining the orib­atid population character.
