}BACKGROUND
Malaria is still rife and perennial in Cameroon despite remarkable progress in controlling the disease. About 95% of the country is malaria endemic. Prompt and accurate diagnosis of malaria may lead to improved patient care and reduced morbidity. This paper analyses limitations in malaria diagnosis in the North West Region of Cameroon and opportunities for improvement.
METHODS
The sample units were 40 laboratories in governmental health facilities (GHFs) selected by cluster (Health…

Climate Variability and the Emergence of Malaria: Case of Kumbo Central Sub-Division, North West Region, Cameroon
- Medicine
- 2020
Investigation of the role of climate variability on the emergence of malaria in the North West region of Cameroon revealed that patterns of fluctuation in climate parameters did not have a perfect match with rates of prevalence of malaria, but some relatively significant correlation was found.

The delivery through community health workers (CHWs) is to be preferred to a facility-based intervention, which allows for a broader coverage of using RDT and RRT, but with limited effectiveness due to limited skills of CHWs in treating and managing patients.

Low quality of routine microscopy for malaria at different levels of the health system in Dar es Salaam
- MedicineMalaria Journal
- 2011
The quality of routine microscopy was poor in all health facilities, regardless of their level, and over-diagnosis was massive, with many false positive results reported as very low parasitaemia.
Reliability of rapid diagnostic tests in diagnosing pregnancy-associated malaria in north-eastern Tanzania
- MedicineMalaria Journal
- 2012
Microscopy underestimated the real burden of malaria during pregnancy and RDTs performed better than microscopy in diagnosing PAM, which means screening with RDT is likely to identify most infections in pregnant women and out-performs microscopy as a diagnostic tool.
Impact of Plasmodium falciparum infection on haematological parameters in children living in Western Kenya
- MedicineMalaria Journal
- 2010
Children infected with Plasmodium falciparum malaria exhibited important changes in some haematological parameters with low platelet count and haemoglobin concentration being the two most important predictors of malaria infection in children in the study area.
Mapping malaria transmission in West and Central Africa
- MedicineTropical medicine & international health : TM & IH

The produced maps confirm known patterns of malaria transmission, providing a baseline against which interventions such as insecticide‐treated nets programmes and trends in drug resistance can be evaluated and indicate zones where further survey data are needed most urgently.

The data indicates that poor environmental sanitation and housing conditions may be significant risk factors for malaria parasite burden in Bolifamba.

Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), a novel nucleic acid amplification method was developed for the clinical detection of P. knowlesi malaria parasites and demonstrated higher sensitivity compared to nested PCR by successfully detecting a sample with very low parasitaemia (< 0.01%).
