&NA; A pilot open study was conducted in order to evaluate the efficacy of clonidine in the treatment of LSD‐induced hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD). Eight patients fulfilled entrance criteria. All complained of HPPD for at least 3 months and were drug free at least 3 months. They received fixed low doses of clonidine, 0.025 mg, three times a day for 2 months. They were evaluated by the Clinical Global Impression Scale (CGI) and a self‐report scale on the severity of symptoms…
A Review of Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder (HPPD) and an Exploratory Study of Subjects Claiming Symptoms of HPPD.
TLDR
Results of the survey suggest that HPPD is in most cases due to a subtle over-activation of predominantly neural visual pathways that worsens anxiety after ingestion of arousal-altering drugs, including non-hallucinogenic substances.
Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder (HPPD) and Flashback-are they Identical?
TLDR
With its potentially neuroprotective and mood-stabilising properties, lamotrigine may offer a promising new therapeutic approach for the treatment of Hallucinogen persisting perception disorder.
Clinical Characteristics of Individuals With Schizophrenia and Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder: A Preliminary Investigation
TLDR
Very little is known about the co-occurrence of schizophrenia and HPPD or the associated clinical implications, and further research is needed to understand the clinical impact of this comorbidity.
Hallucinogen-persisting perception disorder
TLDR
Based on its hypothesized neuroprotective and mood-stabilizing effects, the antiepileptic lamotrigine may offer a promising new approach in the treatment of HPPD.
Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder: Etiology, Clinical Features, and Therapeutic Perspectives
TLDR
The aims of the present study are to review all the original studies about HPPD in order to provide readers with the most updated and comprehensive literature review about the clinical features and treatment options for HPPD.
Hallucinogen persisting perception disorder: A literature review and three case reports
Abstract The paper describes diagnostic criteria, clinical presentation and types of hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD), as well as current approaches to the treatment of this
Pathological Delta Oscillations in Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder: A Case Report
TLDR
Pathological delta activity over occipital brain regions may play an important role in the development and perpetuation of Hallucinogen persisting perception disorder and can be attenuated by non-invasive brain stimulation.
Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder and Risk of Suicide
TLDR
Although hallucinogen abuse is common in the United States, this case suggests that HPPD maybe significantly underdiagnosed and undertreated and in some cases, this oversight may perpetuate years of unnecessary patient suffering and can ultimately lead to severe depression and suicide.
