To determine whether changes in LH and testosterone (T) blood levels and pulse signals were induced by sexual arousal, nine healthy young males were presented on two different days with a sexually arousing (S) and a sexually neutral control (C) film. On both sessions, blood was sampled every 10 min for 12 hr. The Cluster and the Detect pulse identification algorithms were used to characterize the peaks in LH and T series. The second plasma LH peak following the beginning of the film was higher… Expand
NEUROENDOCRINE AND CARDIOVASCULAR RESPONSE TO SEXUAL AROUSAL AND ORGASM IN MEN
TLDR
Orgasm induced transient increases in heart rate, blood pressure and noradrenaline plasma levels and none of the other endocrine variables were significantly affected by sexual arousal and orgasm. Expand
Orgasm-induced prolactin secretion: feedback control of sexual drive?
TLDR
A theoretical model of the role of PRL as a neuroendocrine reproductive reflex is proposed, suggesting that PRL may represent a peripheral regulatory factor for reproductive function, and/or a feedback mechanism that signals CNS centres controlling sexual arousal and behaviour. Expand
Hormonal responses to different sexually related conditions in male rats
TLDR
Results show that sexual experience has an important influence on the hormonal response to sexual activity, and C rises could be directly related to sexual arousal involved in the different sexual conditions, while T rises seem to have a direct relationship with both the motivation and execution aspects of masculine sexual behavior. Expand
Behavioural effects of androgen in men and women.
TLDR
In humans, however, hormonal influences on behaviour are much less potent than in animals, and differences in behaviour are considered to result mainly from a combination of intrapsychic, social and cultural factors. Expand
HORMONES AND SPORT Behavioural effects of androgen in men and women

Growth hormone, prolactin, and sexuality
TLDR
A decrease of desire and arousability both in men and women, together with an impairment of erectile function in men, have been described both in patients with GHD and acromegaly, although it is not clear whether they are dependent directly on the hormone defect or excess or they are consequence of the hypogonadism or the different clinical complications. Expand
Hidden Patterns of Male Sex Hormones and Behaviour Vary with Life History
Androgens regulate sperm production, the expression of secondary sex characters and behavior in males and also vice versa, androgens are modulated by the male’s interactions with his socialExpand
Associations between testosterone secretion and sexual activity in women
TLDR
Data pointed to an association between T and orgasming, sexual desire, and relationship commitment and analyses on post-activity appraisals suggest that the close intimate physicality of a sexual and non-sexual nature can affect T and be beneficial in short-term and perhaps longer-lasting ways for women's sexuality and relationships. Expand
Cardiovascular and endocrine alterations after masturbation-induced orgasm in women.
TLDR
Sexual arousal and orgasm produce a distinct pattern of neuroendocrine alterations in women, primarily inducing a long-lasting elevation in plasma prolactin concentrations, suggesting that Prolactin is an endocrine marker of sexual aroused and orgasm. Expand
Normal Testosterone but Higher Luteinizing Hormone Plasma Levels in Men With Hypersexual Disorder
TLDR
Investigation of testosterone and luteinizing hormone levels in hypersexual men found Subtle dysregulation of the HPG axis, with increased LH plasma levels but no difference in testosterone levels may be present in hyper sexual men. Expand

Luteinising hormone and testosterone in man
TLDR
The aim of the study was to establish whether the normal pulsatile secretion of LH and testosterone in men could be altered by a specific sexual stimulus and to expose male volunteers to a film sequence which included scenes of human behaviour which were judged to be sexually provocative. Expand
Spectrum of the pulsatile characteristics of LH release in normal men.
TLDR
It was concluded that eugonadal men exhibit a broad spectrum of pulsatile LH characteristics, and the range of LH pulse attributes is even greater at more intensive rates of venous sampling. Expand
Plasma luteinizing hormone and testosterone in the adult male pig: 24 hour fluctuations and the effect of copulation.
TLDR
The data are interpreted as a possible mechanism for endocrine control of testicular function by examining the pattern of plasma LH and testosterone concentrations before and after copulation. Expand
INFLUENCE OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY ON SERUM LEVELS OF LH AND TESTOSTERONE IN THE RAM
TLDR
Although a rise in LH followed one or more of the types of sexual stimulation in four of the seven rams, no consistent relationship was found with serum levels of testosterone or LH. Expand
Secretion of luteinizing hormone in male mice: factors that influence release during sexual encounters.
TLDR
The results suggest that the pattern of LH secretion in male mice during sexual encounters is similar to that in females, and that spontaneous episodic LH release immediately before external stimulation does not secrete LH in response to any of the female stimulus conditions. Expand
Alterations in plasma concentrations of testosterone, LH, and prolactin associated with mating in the male rat
TLDR
It is suggested that plasma hormones rise in anticipation of mating, although not to the same extent as following mating, and that the anticipatory rise may function to initiate or facilitate mating behavior. Expand
Reflex release of gonadotropin and increased plasma testosterone concentration in male rabbits during copulation.
TLDR
These studies suggest that there is a neuroendocrine reflex in the male rabbit, analogous to reflex ovulation in the female, which probably involves viscosity or copulation or presence of a female. Expand
Pulsatile secretion of LH in the ram: a re-evaluation using a discrete deconvolution analysis.
The purpose of the present experiment was to characterize LH secretion pulsatility in rams by analysing the instantaneous secretion rate profile obtained by deconvoluting the plasma concentrationExpand
Is aromatization of testosterone to estradiol required for inhibition of luteinizing hormone secretion in men
TLDR
It is concluded that aromatization is an unnecessary prerequisite for the action of androgens on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. Expand
Temporal variation in LH and testosterone responses of rams after the introduction of oestrous females during the breeding season.
TLDR
It is concluded that the presence of females affects LH pulse frequency at sunrise but not at noon during the breeding season and this effect is at least partly independent of sexual behaviour. Expand
