Through an examination of his pamphlet The State and Revolution, this article seeks to understand how Vladimir Lenin, on the eve of the Bolshevik seizure of power in Russia in October 1917, conceptualized proletarian state violence. Building on certain key works on Lenin and his thought, both recent and not so recent, it demonstrates that the apparently large disparity between The State and Revolution and Lenin’s years in power in the Soviet Union is, in fact, quite false.
