This paper explores the dimensions of the ethnolinguistic identity and vitality of Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Language data from the 1991 Canadian Census as well as other data from governmental, non-governmental and Aboriginal sources are discussed in the context of a social psychological framework of language maintenance and shift.
