This paper analyses the Noether symmetries and the corresponding conservation laws for Chern-Simons Lagrangians in dimension dD 3. In particular, we find an expression for the superpotential of Chern-Simons gravity. As a byproduct the general discussion of superpotentials for third-order natural and quasi-natural theories is also given.

COVARIANT LAGRANGIAN FORMULATION OF CHERN–SIMONS AND BF THEORIES
We investigate the covariant formulation of Chern–Simons theories in a general odd dimension which can be obtained by introducing a vacuum connection field as a reference. Field equations, Nother
NOETHER CONSERVATION LAWS IN HIGHER-DIMENSIONAL CHERN SIMONS THEORY
Though a global Chern–Simons (2k-1)-form is not gauge-invariant, this form seen as a Lagrangian of higher-dimensional gauge theory leads to the conservation law of a modified Noether current.
Gauge conservation laws in higher-dimensional Chern-Simons models
Being gauge non-invariant, a Chern-Simons (2k-1)-form seen as a Lagrangian of gauge theory on a (2k-1)-dimensional manifold leads to the gauge conservation law of a modified Noether current.
Energy-momentum conservation laws in higher-dimensional Chern-Simons models
Though a Chern-Simons (2k-1)-form is not gauge-invariant and it depends on a background connection, this form seen as a Lagrangian of gauge theory on a (2k-1)-dimensional manifold leads to the
A covariant formalism for Chern–Simons gravity
Chern–Simons type Lagrangians in d = 3 dimensions are analysed from the point of view of their covariance and globality. We use the transgression formula to find out a new fully covariant and global
Noether currents for BF gravity
The conservation laws and currents for BF theory in four spacetime dimensions and BF gravity corresponding with their Lagrangian local gauge symmetries (local Lorentz transformations and
Conservation laws for non-global Lagrangians
In the Lagrangian framework for symmetries and conserva- tion laws of field theories, we investigate globality properties of conserved currents associated with non-global Lagrangians admitting global
Quasilocal conserved charges in the presence of a gravitational Chern-Simons term
We extend our recent work on the quasilocal formulation of conserved charges to a theory of gravity containing a gravitational Chern-Simons term. As an application of our formulation, we compute the
Alternative Lagrangians for Einstein Metrics
We shall use the variational decomposition technique in order to calculate equations of motion and Noether energy-momentum complex for some classes of non-linear gravitational Lagrangians within the

Existence of local degrees of freedom for higher dimensional pure Chern-Simons theories.
The canonical structure of higher dimensional pure Chern-Simons theories is analyzed. It is shown that these theories have generically a nonvanishing number of local degrees of freedom, even though
Symmetries of the Einstein equations.
We classify all generalized symmetries of the vacuum Einstein equations in four spacetime dimensions. They consist of constant scalings of the metric, and of the infinitesimal action of generalized
Gauge symmetries of pure Chern - Simons theories with p-form gauge fields
The gauge symmetries of pure Chern - Simons theories with p-form gauge fields are analysed. It is shown that the number of independent gauge symmetries depends crucially on the parity of p. The case
Quantum field theory and the Jones polynomial
It is shown that 2+1 dimensional quantum Yang-Mills theory, with an action consisting purely of the Chern-Simons term, is exactly soluble and gives a natural framework for understanding the Jones
GAUGE COVARIANT CONFORMAL TRANSFORMATIONS
The action of conformal transformations on gauge potentials can be defined in a gauge covariant fashion. This unconventional procedure is used in several branches of theoretical physics, with the
Alternative Lagrangians for Einstein Metrics
We shall use the variational decomposition technique in order to calculate equations of motion and Noether energy-momentum complex for some classes of non-linear gravitational Lagrangians within the
Chern--Simons Terms as an Example of the Relations Between Mathematics and Physics
The inevitability of Chern--Simons terms in constructing a variety of physical models, and the mathematical advances they in turn generate, illustrates the unexpected but profound interactions
Conservation laws in general relativity
The general 'Lagrangian' method to generate conserved currents in field theories starting from the so-called Poincare-Cartan form is reviewed, with examples of application to general relativity.
Two-dimensional Lorentz-Weyl anomaly and gravitational Chern-Simons theory
Two-dimensional chiral fermions and bosons, more generally conformal blocks of two-dimensional conformal field theories, exhibit Weyl-, Lorentz- and mixed Lorentz-Weyl anomalies. A novel way of
Three-dimensional massive gauge theories
Three-dimensional Yang-Mills and gravity theories augmented by gauge-invariant mass terms are analyzed. These topologically nontrivial additions profoundly alter the particle content of the models
