Increased cell proliferation most likely plays a key role in peroxisome proliferator-induced liver cancer. Recently, Kupffer cells were shown to be responsible for Wy-14,643-induced cell proliferation. However, the mechanism by which peroxisome proliferators activate Kupffer cells is unknown.
