Kinetoplast DNA (kDNA), the mitochondrial DNA of trypanosomes, is a network of thousands of topologically interlocked DNA minicircles and about 50 maxicircles. In this study, we have analysed the kDNA molecules of 6 strains of Trypanosoma evansi from different geographical areas. 2 strains were found to be dyskinetoplastic mutants and other 4 kinetoplastic strains absent of maxicircles.
