Kidney ectopeptidases play an important role in the metabolism of different peptides. They activate precursor proteins or inactivate peptides including hormones, cytokines, vasoactive peptides (angiotensin II, endothelin), neuroendocrine hormones, changing local concentration in active peptides. Kidney ectopeptidase regulate cell proliferation, adhesion, matrix synthesis, cell signaling, cell activation, differentiation and cell-cell communication.
