}The potential of cytologically reconstructed barley line D-2946 to cope with the major lesions that hamper genome integrity, namely DNA single- and double-strand breaks was investigated. Strand breaks induced by γ-rays and Li ions were assessed by neutral and alkaline comet assay. Repair capacity after bleomycin treatment was evaluated by agarose gel electrophoresis under neutral and alkaline conditions. Frequencies of radiation-induced chromosome aberrations were also determined. Results…

DNA and chromosomal damage as a hallmark of the induced genomic instability in barley.
- Biology
- 2015
Barley was utilized as a model crop for a complex characterization of the cytogenetic and molecular dimensions of the genomic instability produced in plant genome by mutagenic and clastogenic agents such as ionizing and ultraviolet radiation, Li-ions, bleomycin and restriction endonucleases.
CYTOGENETIC EFFECTS IN BARLEY ROOT APICAL MERISTEM AFTER EXPOSURE OF DRY SEEDS TO LITHIUM ION BEAMS
- Biology
- 2015
Chromosomal aberrations of both chromatid and chromosome type were found which indicates that 7Li-ions display S-independent mode of action, and might be a plausible evidence of its spontaneous nature.
A comparative analysis of membrane intactness and genome integrity in pea, barley, and wheat in response to UVC irradiation
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 2015
It is found that UVC radiation substantially affects nuclear membranes and the level of DSBs in a dose-responsive manner, and differential sensitivity across plant species was observed, allowing us to speculate that plant species with larger genomes may better tolerate UVC Radiation.
Efficient removal of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers in barley: differential contribution of light-dependent and dark DNA repair pathways.
- BiologyPhysiologia plantarum
- 2016
The results show that CPDs induced in the primary barley leaf at frequencies potentially damaging DNA at the single-gene level are removed efficiently and exclusively by photorepair pathway, whereas dark repair is hardly detectable, even at higher CPD frequency.
GENETIC STABILITY OF HUMAN MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS EXPOSED TO X-RAYS OR HEAT SHOCK IN CULTURE

It was shown that both types of stress caused similar changes in eMSC karyotype structure, and in both cases, 80% of the cell population had karyotypes abnormalities.
Salvia Extract Can Decrease DNA Damage Induced by Zeocin
Sage extract applied in a higher but low-toxic concentration showed well expressed protective potential againstZeocin and decreased the chromosome aberrations and micronuclei induced by zeocin in both testsystems.

Comparative Radiation Tolerance Based on the Induction of DNA Double-Strand Breaks in Tobacco BY-2 Cells and CHO-K1 Cells Irradiated with Gamma Rays
- BiologyRadiation research
- 2005
The results suggest that the radiation tolerance of BY-2 cells appears to be due not only to a lower induction of DNA damage but also to a more efficient repair of the induced DNA damage.
Production and identification of new structural chromosome mutations in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)
- Biology, MedicineTheoretical and Applied Genetics

A great number of the structural mutations produced in this study contain specific cytological markers covering nearly all of the chromosomes of barley karyotype, of considerable interest in solving various problems of barley cytogenetics and chromosome engineering and especially in constructing a physical map of barley genome.
