  • Average recoil ranges were measured for five fission products formed by 23 Mev deuteron reactions with uranium-238. The ranges of products from near symmetric fission (cadmium-115 and silver-111) are longer than for neutron fission of uranium-235, while the ranges of asymmetric products (iodine-131, barium-140, and strontium-89) are shorter. The kinetic energy deficit for near symmetric fission is 15 to 20 Mev lower for this system than for thermal neutron fission of U/sup 236/. The magnitude… CONTINUE READING
