During a survey in April 1991 to determine the immunisation status of 218 children resident in a rural riverine community, 49 (22.48) were found to have been infested with Tunga penetrans. Itching and ulceration were the commonest symptoms. The feet were infested in all children, none of whom was taken to a health facility. 42.86% of infested children received complete doses of DPT.
