Jarzynski's theorem is a well-known equality in statistical mechanics, which relates fluctuations in the work performed during a non-equilibrium transformation of a system, to the free-energy difference between two equilibrium ensembles. In this article, we apply Jarzynski's theorem in lattice gauge theory, for two examples of challenging computational problems, namely the calculation of interface free energies and the determination of the equation of state. We conclude with a discussion of…

Applications of Jarzynski's relation in lattice gauge theories

Jarzynski's equality is a well-known result in statistical mechanics, relating free-energy differences between equilibrium ensembles with fluctuations in the work performed during non-equilibrium

Jarzynski Equality for Driven Quantum Field Theories

The fluctuation theorems, and in particular, the Jarzynski equality, are the most important pillars of modern nonequilibrium statistical mechanics. We extend the quantum Jarzynski equality together

QCD thermodynamics from lattice calculations with nonequilibrium methods: The SU(3) equation of state

A precise lattice determination of the equation of state in SU(3) Yang-Mills theory is carried out by means of a simulation algorithm, based on Jarzynski's theorem, that allows one to compute

Calculation of the running coupling in non-Abelian gauge theories from Jarzynski's equality

We discuss the theoretical foundations of non-equilibrium Monte Carlo simulations based on Jarzynski's equality and present, as an example of application, the determination of the running coupling in

TT¯ deformation of the compactified boson and its interpretation in lattice gauge theory

We study the effective string description of space-like Polyakov loop correlators at finite temperature with the goal of describing the behaviour of the space--like string tension in the vicinity of

Effective String Description of the Confining Flux Tube at Finite Temperature

In this review, after a general introduction to the effective string theory (EST) description of confinement in pure gauge theories, we discuss the behaviour of EST as the temperature is increased.

Fine corrections in the effective string describing SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in three dimensions

Abstract We present a study of the effective string that describes the infrared dynamics of SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in three dimensions. By combining high-precision lattice simulation results for

T ¯ T deformation of the compactified boson and its interpretation in lattice gauge theory

We study the effective string description of spacelike Polyakov loop correlators at finite temperature with the goal of describing the behavior of the spacelike string tension in the vicinity of the

Flux Tube S-Matrix Bootstrap.

TLDR
The bootstrap the S matrix of massless particles in unitary, relativistic two dimensional quantum field theories is bootstrapable to massless S matrices in higher dimensions and should lead to new quantitative bounds on irrelevant operators in theories of Goldstones and, also, in gauge and gravity theories.

The Union of Quantum Field Theory and Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics

Quantum field theory is the language used to describe nature at its most fundamental scales; while thermodynamics is a framework to describe the collective behavior of macroscopic systems. Recent
