Context. Solar observatories are providing the world-wide community with a wealth of data, covering wide time ranges (e.g.  Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, SOHO), multiple viewpoints (Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory, STEREO), and returning large amounts of data (Solar Dynamics Observatory, SDO).
