Isotopically enriched (BN)-B-10 nanotubes, shown in the figure, have been produced for the first time. Secondary ion mass spectroscopy analysis confirms a high content of B-10 in the nanotubes. The (BN)-B-10 nanotubes are lightweight, have excellent mechanical properties, a stronger resistance to oxidation than carbon nanotubes, and superior radiation shielding properties, offering a multifunctional material with promising space radiation shielding applications.

Boron-nitride and boron-carbonitride nanotubes: synthesis, characterization and theory

We present in this review a joint experimental and theoretical overview of the synthesis techniques and properties of boron-nitride (BN) and boron-carbonitride (BCN) nanotubes. While their tubular

Synthesis of boron nitride nanotubes by boron ink annealing

The ball-milled B particles are mixed with metal nitrate in ethanol to form an ink-like solution, and then the ink is annealed in nitrogen-containing gas to form nanotubes, giving a higher density of nanot tubes.

High Purity and Yield of Boron Nitride Nanotubes Using Amorphous Boron and a Nozzle-Type Reactor

Use of a mixture of amorphous boron and Fe decreases the milling time for the preparation of the precursor for BNNTs synthesis, as well as the Fe impurity contained in the B/Fe interdiffused precursor nanoparticles by using a simple purification process.
