Rare isotope Ca(0.187%) has been selectively loaded in a linear Paul trap by means of photo-ionization using ultraviolet LEDs in the second excitation. Sympathetic cooling of Ca and Ca has also been demonstrated. Trapped ions have been considered to be preferable physical system for realizing quantum information processor (QIP).
