To better understand the molecular mechanisms of the photoperiodic regulation of rice, a short-day plant, we isolated 27 cDNAs that were differentially expressed in the photoperiod-insensitive se5 mutant from approximately 8,400 independent mRNA species by the use of a fluorescent differential display (FDD).
