Cytopathogenic pestiviruses were isolated from two seronegative free-ranging roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) from northern Germany (Schleswig-Holstein): an adult female and a young buck collected on 6 December 1990 and 26 July 1991, respectively. The two isolates were identified by polymerase chain reaction as pestiviruses.
