Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are routinely prepared by collagenase/pronase digestion of liver using a perfusion system and subsequent fractionation of the heterogeneous cell suspension on continuous density gradients made out of Nycodenz, metrizamide, stractan, or percoll.
