A structurally unique glucosinolate (GSL) was identified to be 4-(β-D-glucopyranosyldisulfanyl)butyl GSL in rocket leaves. The positive-ion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) data indicated that the new GSL had a molecular weight of 521 (m⁄z 522, [M+H]+, as desulfo-GSL). The molecular formula of the substance was determined to be C17H32O11NS3 (m⁄z 522.1143, [M+H]+) based on its positive-ion high-resolution fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry (HR-FAB-MS) data. For the further…

Structural Elucidation of 4-(Cystein-S-yl)butyl Glucosinolate from the Leaves of Eruca sativa

The structurally unique glucosinolate (GSL), 4-(cystein-S-yl)butyl DS-GSL, was identified in the leaves of hydroponically-grown rocket salad and clearly seems to reduce the detoxification of excess NH4 + in the Leaves of rocket salad.

Glucosinolate profiles in the seeds, leaves and roots of rocket salad (Eruca sativa Mill.) and anti-oxidative activities of intact plant powder and purified 4-methoxyglucobrassicin

Abstract Six desulfo-glucosinolates (DS-GSLs), DS-glucoraphanin, DS-4-(β-d-glucopyranosyldisulfanyl)butyl GSL, DS-glucoerucin, DS-glucobrassicin, DS-dimeric 4-mercaptobutyl GSL and

Identification and quantification of glucosinolates in rocket salad (Eruca sativa)

The total GSL content in seed sprouts initially increased up to 3 DAS and then decreased according to their seedling growth, and in the time-course, the total GSL contents increased dramatically from 3-week to 7-week after sowing, regardless of cultivar.

An approach to the phytochemical profiling of rocket [Eruca sativa (Mill.) Thell].

This research characterised the nutraceutical interest of four rocket accessions by analysis of glucosinolates, isothiocyanates, phenolics, carotenoids and carbohydrates by using chromatographic separation with ultraviolet absorbance or mass spectrometry detection.

BACKGROUND: Eruca sativa (rocket) contains a wide range of compounds with nutraceutical and organoleptical properties. These research has been aimed at characterizing the nutraceutical interest of

Naturally occurring glucosinolates in plant extracts of rocket salad (Eruca sativa L.) identified by liquid chromatography coupled with negative ion electrospray ionization and quadrupole ion-trap mass spectrometry.

The structures of glucosinolates were confirmed by extensive sequential MS analysis, thereby substantially improving the identification of unknown compounds and indicated the usefulness of this method for a rapid, sensitive and comprehensive profiling of the GLS family naturally occurring in extracts of crude plant matter.

The methionine chain elongation pathway in the biosynthesis of glucosinolates in Eruca sativa (Brassicaceae).

The chain elongation pathway for methionine that is involved in glucosinolate biosynthesis in Eruca sativa is investigated and the retention of a high level of (15)N in the products suggests that the amino transfer reactions and the chain elongations cycle are localized in the same subcellular compartment.

Dietary glucosinolates as blocking agents against carcinogenesis: glucosinolate breakdown products assessed by induction of quinone reductase activity in murine hepa1c1c7 cells.

The results show that the potential cancer-blocking action of both intact and thioglucoside glucohydrolase-treated glucosinolates, as assessed by induction of phase II enzyme activity, is dependent on the nature of the side chain of the parent glucOSinolate.
