OBJECTIVE To develop and test a simple enzymatic procedure for isolating chondrons, which consist of the chondrocytes and their surrounding pericellular microenvironment. DESIGN Chondrons were obtained by digesting adult human articular cartilage with a mixture of dispase and collagenase.
