As in the predecessor volume (Schulze and Mooney, 1993), most of the 18 chapters in this book do not really treat the nominal subject: the relation between biodiversity and ecosystem function. The editors' introductory chapter suggests that islands may prove as useful in understanding this relationship as they have in understanding other ecological and evolutionary matters, because some islands vary in species richness but not other factors believed to help govern many ecosystem processes… CONTINUE READING
