Mitral regurgitation (MR) is a frequent complication of myocardial infarction and coronary artery disease that is associated with adverse prognosis. The main mechanism of ischemic MR relates to distortion of the spatial relationships between the mitral valve and papillary muscles secondary to ventricular remodeling.
