Assuming that a particle and its antiparticle have the gravitational charge of the opposite sign, the physical vacuum may be considered as a fluid of virtual gravitational dipoles. Following this hypothesis, we present the first indications that dark matter may not exist and that the phenomena for which it was invoked might be explained by the gravitational polarization of the quantum vacuum by the known baryonic matter.
Dark matter as an effect of the quantum vacuum
The interaction between the quantum vacuum and a weak gravitational field is calculated for the vacuum fields of quantum electrodynamics. The result shows that the vacuum state is modified by the
Quantum vacuum and dark matter
Recently, the gravitational polarization of the quantum vacuum was proposed as alternative to the dark matter paradigm. In the present paper we consider four benchmark measurements: the universality
Quantum vacuum and virtual gravitational dipoles: the solution to the dark energy problem?
The cosmological constant problem is the principal obstacle in the attempt to interpret dark energy as the quantum vacuum energy. We suggest that the obstacle can be removed, i.e. that the

In this article various heuristic approaches are discussed to solve the dark matter phenomenon by the concept of vacuum polarization. They are compared with a more fundamental approach, based upon an
Quantum vacuum as the cause of the phenomena usually attributed to dark matter
We show that if quantum vacuum fluctuations are virtual gravitational dipoles, then the phenomena usually attributed to hypothetical dark matter, may be considered as a consequence of the
Dark matter is a manifestation of the vacuum Bose-Einstein condensate
The vorticity equation stemming from the modified Navier-Stokes equation gives a solution for a flat profile of the orbital speed of spiral galaxies. Solutions disclose existence of the Gaussian
What if quantum vacuum fluctuations are virtual gravitational dipoles
The hypothesis stated in the title might be the basis for a new model of the Universe; we give a pedagogical overview of the new model. According to the new model, the only content of the Universe is
On the gravitational field of a point-like body immersed in a quantum vacuum
Quantum vacuum and matter immersed in it interact through electromagnetic, strong and weak interactions. However, we have zero knowledge of the gravitational properties of the quantum vacuum. As an
Hawking radiation cannot exist if quantum vacuum fluctuations are gravitational dipoles
It was recently suggested that what we call dark matter and dark energy, can be explained as the local and global effects of the gravitational polarization of the quantum vacuum by the immersed
A Cyclic Universe alternatively dominated by matter and antimatter
It was recently suggested that what we call dark matter and dark energy, can be explained as the local and global effects of the gravitational polarization of the quantum vacuum by the immersed

On the vacuum fluctuations, Pioneer Anomaly and Modified Newtonian Dynamics
We argue that the so-called “Pioneer Anomaly” is related to the quantum vacuum fluctuations. Our approach is based on the hypothesis of the gravitational repulsion between matter and antimatter, what
Dark matter, dark energy and gravitational proprieties of antimatter
We suggest that the eventual gravitational repulsion between matter and antimatter may be a key for understanding of the nature of dark matter and dark energy. If there is gravitational repulsion,
Dark energy, antimatter gravity and geometry of the Universe
This article is based on two hypotheses. The first one is the existence of the gravitational repulsion between particles and antiparticles. Consequently, virtual particle-antiparticle pairs in the
Gravitational polarization and the phenomenology of MOND
The modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) has been proposed as an alternative to the dark matter paradigm; the philosophy behind is that there is no dark matter and we witness a violation of the
Model of Dark Matter and Dark Energy Based on Gravitational Polarization
A model of dark matter and dark energy based on the concept of gravitational polarization is investigated. We propose an action in standard general relativity for describing, at some effective or
A few provoking relations between dark energy, dark matter, and pions
I present three relations, striking in their simplicity and fundamental appearance. The first one connects the Compton wavelength of a pion and the dark energy density of the Universe; the second one
On the relation between mass of a pion, fundamental physical constants and cosmological parameters
In this article we reconsider the old mysterious relation, advocated by Dirac and Weinberg, between the mass of the pion, the fundamental physical constants, and the Hubble parameter. By introducing
Black Holes and Gravitational Properties of Antimatter
The gravitational properties of antimatter are still a secret of nature. One outstanding possibility is that there is a gravitational repulsion between matter and antimatter (in short we call it
The QCD nature of dark energy
CPT symmetry and antimatter gravity in general relativity
The gravitational behavior of antimatter is still unknown. While we may be confident that antimatter is self-attractive, the interaction between matter and antimatter might be either attractive or
